The California Aqueduct Brochure

The history, features, and operation of the California Aqueduct are described.

The main stem of the California Aqueduct consists of 385 miles of concrete-lined open canal and 59 miles of tunnels, siphons, and pipelines. It transports up to 3 million acre feet of water each year to SWP urban and agricultural users. It also includes information about biking along the California Aqueduct.

San Luis Brochure

The San Luis Complex is jointly owned and operated by the State and federal governments.

This publication takes a look at the historical events that led to the construction of San Luis Reservoir, the nation’s largest offstream reservoir, and briefly explains the other facilities within the complex and their operations.

This brochure is also available in electronic format (9.26MB .pdf).

Coastal Branch Brochure

The Coastal Branch is the largest water development project undertaken by the Department in the past decade.

The publication discusses how the system of underground pipelines, tunnels, and pumping plants serves water users in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.

This brochure is also available in electronic format (2.10mb .pdf).

Edmonston Pumping Plant Brochure

Edmonston Pumping Plant provides one of the highest single lifts in the world — almost 2,000 feet up the Tehachapi Mountains — through a series of tunnels into Southern California.

The brochure discusses the plant’s history, design and seismic safety features.

This brochure is also available in electronic format (2.8mb pdf).
