Every year, the Department of Water Resources issues technical bulletins, reports, and other publications and media documenting the measurement, protection, use, and management of California's water resources. This DWR Publications Repository is a partial and growing list of the publications and other media produced and distributed by the Department.

In this list you find a variety of types of publications and other media ranging from print material, to audio and video files. If the publication or other media is available in electronic format, a link will point to the appropriate electronic file. In many cases, publications are only available in hardcopy and cannot be downloaded. A contact phone number and email will be provided for cases where an electronic download is not available.

Description: The Landscape Coefficient Method (LCM) describes a method of estimating irrigation needs of landscape plantings in California. It is intended as a guide for landscape professionals. It includes information that is based on research and on field experience (observation). Readers are advised that LCM calculations give estimates of water needs, not exact values, and adjustments to irrigation amounts may be needed in the field.

Description: Among the key findings of the 2002 Water Recycling Task Force was the need to address the dual-plumbing of buildings to flush toilets and urinals. Among the findings in the White Paper from the Plumbing Code and Cross Connection Control Workgroup: “Portions of three California Codes have been identified as including impediments to recycled water use and are addressed in this white paper. They are the California Plumbing Code (CPC) Section 601.2.2 and 601.2.3 and Appendix J dealing with dual plumbed systems, Title 17 Section 7583 et seq. dealing with cross-connection control, and Title 22 Sections 60313-60616 dealing with recycled water dual plumbed systems. These codes pose problems because of their adoption status in some cases, inconsistencies between codes, and possibly unnecessarily restrictive requirements.” Th

Description: Two years ago, the state legislature directed the State of California to “undertake the restoration of the Salton Sea ecosystem and the permanent protection of the wildlife dependent on that ecosystem.” The legislature also directed the Secretary for Resources to prepare a restoration study and accompanying programmatic Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The state Resources Agency is following an objective and transparent process that includes broad public involvement for preparation of the Ecosystem Restoration Plan and programmatic EIR called for in the legislation. This process is intended to provide balanced representation of the numerous stakeholders with interest in restoration of the Salton Sea.

Description: Two page brochure describing the field use of tensiometers. A tensiometer is a device for measuring soil water tension. It consists of a cylindrical pipe about one inch in diameter with a porous ceramic cup attached to one end and a vacuum gauge attached to the other.

Description: The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) with the City of Santa Barbara and East Bay Municipal Utilities District initiated the Graywater Study in the spring of 1996. Graywater is untreated waste water which has not come into contact with toilet waste. The purpose of the study was to collect data at single-family sites to determine the benefits, costs, and impacts of graywater. The project was modeled after the 1992 City of Los Angeles Office of Reclamation's Graywater Pilot Project. It was hoped that there would be ten sites throughout the State to participate in this two-year project. While initial interest was great, only three sites in the cities of Santa Barbara, Danville (Contra Costa County), and Castro Valley (Alameda County) were able to obtain local permits and meet the other requirements of the study.
